Round 8 and 9 Reports


Lake Sevan 2016 tournament came to its end. On July 25 and 26 games of 8 and 9 round were played. The decisive game of the tournament was the game of round 8 between Samuel Sevian and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi. The game was very nervous one, and chess players were feeling great tension and were playing under big pressure. The game lasted about 6 hours. In the endgame Sevian was two pawns up but lost the on time.

After this victory Vidit Santosh Gujrathi became the sole leader of the tournament. In round Vladislav Artemiev, Hovhannes Gabuzyan and Duda Jan-Krzysztof also celebrated victories. In the last round Gujrathi made a draw against Duda Jan-Krzysztof and secured first place as in case of Artemievs’ victory Gujrathi had a better tie-break. Vladislav Artemiev managed to win the game against Robert Hovhannisyan, although he was playing with black pieces, and got 6 points, but was the second due to lower tie-break and Duda Jan-Krzysztof took the third place with 5,5 points.
